Inspiration: John Galliano Spring 1993 RTW

John Galliano has been a controversial figure in fashion over the years, but Galliano of the 90’s is what made me fall in love with fashion. It wasn’t just fashion, it was art, it had a story, a mood, and transported you to a different time and place. It was magical and Galliano will always have a special place in my heart and will always be one of my favorites.

Dream Shoot: Regency Dressing

How many times have I watched Pride and Prejudice? Too many to count. How many Masterpiece period dramas have I watched? All of them. So when I saw Brock Collection’s Spring/Summer 2020 runway show, I saw my chance to live (or at least look) like Elizabeth Bennet. I was fortunate enough to visit Kinross House, just outside of Edinburgh, Scotland and I found the perfect setting for my personal reverie. Here are my favorite looks from Brock Collection and others that work perfectly for a rendezvous with Mr. Darcy.

Inspiration: Vogue Sept 2010 - Nick Cave - Monsters, Inc.

I just about died when I first saw this spread in Vogue’s Sept 2010 issue. Vogue got this one 100% right. Not only did the magazine bring attention to one of the most inventive performance artists, Nick Cave, but used his fantastic creations to showcase the season’s latest accessories. This was an amazing combination of fashion and art that worked so well and was so outside the box.

So many looks this season reminded me of these marvelous ‘monsters’ that I decided to throw together a lookbook of some of my favorite creations.

Yes, I'd Still Wear That - Versace Spring 1992 RTW

Fashion doesn’t get much better than Gianni Versace at his peak. Versace in the 90’s was amazing. Colorful, playful, beautiful, with the greatest supermodels of the time walking the runway. It was and is gorgeous in every way.

Dream Shoot: Ghosted

I’ve been really loving the desert recently, probably because summer in San Francisco is generally cold and foggy and I’m craving the hot, dry sauna of the desert. Quite a few looks this season channeled the old-timey, western feeling that the desert can make you think of; a very Westworld vibe. What fun it would be to transport these looks back in time to the West that once was!

Ms. Top Ten - Phillip Lim Spring/Summer 2020

Ok this is actually a top 12. Phillip Lim has been a long time favorite of mine. No matter the season, I know I’m going to love everything that walks down the runway. Simple, a little sporty, modern, and clean, I would wear Lim head to toe if I could.

Dream Shoot: Valentino x Magic Mountains

Valentino’s day-glo looks for Spring/Summer 2020 immediately brought to mind the beautiful art installation Seven Magic Mountains by Swedish artist Ugo Rondinone, which sits just outside Las Vegas. Both are beautiful, playful uses of color.

Ms. Top Ten: Ode to Thom Browne Spring/Summer 2020

Technically, this is a Top Ten, but the detailing of Thom Browne is always so spectacular, I had to include some of my favorite detail shots. Tailored and nautical, with a generous nod to Marie Antoinette and French patriotism ; only Thom Browne could combine all this into a truly beautiful and whimsical experience. It’s hard to choose the best looks from so many astonishing creations, but I’ve done my best to pick my favorites.
